Athens, we have a problem
… well, not really a problem, persay. As most people in my life are aware, I REALLY like UGA Football. Over the years, it has probably become my favorite sport, rivaled only by the Yankees. I find it odd because, before I ever stepped foot on to UGA’s campus six years ago, I never was a big college football fan. But everything changed on that late summer Saturday when I entered Sanford Stadium for the first time. I now bleed red and black through and through, and I cannot fully explain just how excited I am for football season to begin on Saturday.
It’s kinda weird. I’ve been away from Atlanta and the state of Georgia for more than two years now, and I only ever feel homesick during football season. I miss walking out of my apartment on Saturday and seeing people peppered all over campus, donned in UGA garb. I even miss the faux crowd noises being pumped through the stadium on Thursdays before away games that we could always hear in River Mill. Being away from Athens has made my love of UGA Football so much deeper, and it’s sorta hard to fully explain.
Yea, my senior year was pretty crappy when we lost to Vandy. But I seemed to rebound a lot easier then than I do now when we lose. The thought of losing a game now is almost too much to bear. I’m not entirely sure when this shift occured, but it definitely has something to do with the fact I am now not emersed in the culture and I am not surrounded by my fellow Bulldog fans on a regular basis.
But who’s excited about Saturday? Phew, oh boy I am.
